Message Long story short, just got done with my engine rebuild, and one thing that has been giving me trouble is my OEM oil pressure reading. Btw, I have a 91 TT. Before my rebuild, the gauge worked fine, afterwards it hasn't worked yet (more on this in a second). I'm fairly certain that I'm not getting 0 PSI oil pressure as I've probably idled addressing other various issues for around an hour now. I briefly pulled the oil cap off when the engine running and there was definitely oil kicking around.

Anyways, so first thing I thought was that some metal from my spun bearing had gotten into my original oil sender unit. Went to store and grabbed a new aftermarket, had the wrong connector. Grabbed my friend's one off an old NA engine that should have been working, and I'm still not getting a reading.

I've tested continuity from the sending unit to the connector near the passenger headlights, and then inside the car at the passenger side kick panel connector. I was about to pull the gauge cluster tonight when I read that I could first try the circuit open (what it effectively had been) and get a 0 reading, then ground it and get a full reading...and to my surprise the gauge moved all the way up. Btw, this was connected to the oil sender connector under the car.

Now I don't see any reason to pull the gauge cluster. I took my old "bad" unit, hooked it up to the signal wire and ground, connected an air compressor to it, and got no reading. I don't have an easy way to pull the "new" one off without draining the oil.

Is there something I'm missing here, or did I get unlucky with possibly a 2nd bad sender unit? If I were to get a new one and it still failed, what would be my next steps? I'm pretty stumped.
